Yesterday evening was terrible.
It took my wife about 1.5 hours to reach my office. Traffic madness in KL due to a down pour. End of the day, we reached home around 8.30 pm. 3 hours after my wife started the journey home from her office. It was like round trip travelling from KL to our hometown.
Adjustments & cancellations were made to several matters – tuition, nursery pick ups, music class, etc!
My main concern about this phenomena is the cost to be incurred by all of us. Fuel – this invisible “waste” is the monster hiding underneath the smoke from the exhaust system. We can never ascertain the amount of money wasted in traffic jammed. For me, if the amount of time wasted in this madness is equal to that of a round trip journey to my home town, then the amount of money wasted is the amount of money spend on the trip back home. And that is tons of money considering thousands of us got stuck in the “zone”.
For those who are putting up their kids in a nursery – the overtime charges are the silent killer. Something that is not fixed and can range from small to a huge bills at the end of the month. In addition to that, people tend to buy fast food to make “quick” dinner for the family and we all know the cost of these fast food.
I can go on and on about the cost incurred with this madness.
So, I am listing my wish list to improve the situation or at least make me feel better …
-
The authority responsible for the traffic management should introduce a “severity code” to be announced on the radio. This will help the users to make better decision while they are on the road.
-
Toll operator or JKR should put up posters to curse all those who cut Qs! If summons are not deterring them, may be cursing will do. :)
-
Stop all those nonsense traffic update on the radio. They are not accurate and too subjective. Severity code can address this.
Cheers.
